Looking for a Therapist Who Truly Gets Grief

Peer grief support is powerful but sometimes it isn’t enough on its own. Many people find that a therapist can help in ways that a group can’t. People ask us all the time if we know therapists who really understands grief especially the kind that comes after a substance use related death. It’s a fair question. Good therapy can help, but not every therapist is equally skilled in grief support.

I’d love to pull together a list of names from our own community. If you’ve worked with someone you’d highly recommend, complete this form if you’d like to share their name, location, whether they do virtual visits and if you have it, a link or number. We’ll keep it private and use it only to help others in our groups who reach out looking for recommendations.

If you’re starting the search yourself, here are a few places to look:

Psychology Today – Find a Therapist (filter for “grief” or “trauma”)

The Dougy Center (national directory of grief resources) Find a local grief program near your location that may have recommendations

Your local Hospice centers.

Finding the right fit with support takes time. A recommendation from someone who’s walked this road can make it a little easier.

with care
