People see you all the time doing regular things. They see you grocery shopping, going to the fireworks, at the bbq, showing up for your family. They don't see the conversation you had with yourself before you got out of the car. They don't see you standing still in the cereal aisle because the tears came out of nowhere. They don't see the energy it took to answer a simple text. They don't see how many times a day you think about the person who died. Grief asks a lot of us behind the scenes. No one acknowledges it because most people never know it's happening. If today feels heavier than it looks from the outside, you're not failing. You're carrying something incredibly heavy while still trying to live your life. If this describes you, know that we don't need to see your grief to know it's there. You don't have to explain why you're tired. You don't have to apologize for crying or for not crying. Being happy or sad. You can just be you in whatever way that looks like.
